  1. Most memorable Diwali experience
The most memorable Diwali experience for me was seven years back. On the night of Diwali, my mother was busy in making arrangements for the prayer and I and my younger brother were sent out to distribute in the neighborhood some boxes of sweets. Down a huge Neem tree, there was a small puppy shivering in cold. I looked at my brother, he looked back at me and immediately he knew what I meant. We came back home, had more sweets and got scolding for being late again. The sweet small puppy we brought home got acceptance and mind it, this worked only because mother got convinced we must welcome all on the sacred day of Diwali.
This is the seventh Diwali with Roli, our pet now, and she sits right next to me while I write this post on her on the occasion of Diwali.

Diwali, the festival of lights, marks the time when millions of Hindus, Sikhs and Jains across the world celebrate the triumph of good over evil with beautiful rituals such as festive lights, fireworks, sweet delicacies and family gatherings. We delve into the Diwali story, history and traditions, to find out how Diwali is celebrated and how you can take part in the magical festivities. In one of the main stories in Hindu mythology, Diwali is the day Lord Rama, his wife Sita Devi and brother Lakshmana return to their homeland after 14 years in exile. The villagers lit a path for Rama, who had defeated the demon king Ravana. Reenactments of this story are part of celebrations in some regions.

Another Diwali story in Hindu mythology is that Diwali marks the day Lord Krishna defeated the demon Narakasura and freed the people of his kingdom. After he slayed the demon, Lord Krishna declared it a day of festivities. In some parts of India, people burn effigies of the demon kings in both stories as part of the celebration.

People also celebrate the Hindu Goddess Lakshmi during Diwali. As the goddess of prosperity, wealth and fertility, the romantic Diwali story says that she chose Lord Vishnu, one of Hinduism’s most important deities, to be her husband on the night of Diwali.

In other cultures, Diwali coincides with harvest and new year celebrations. No matter which Diwali story you celebrate, it’s always a day of new beginnings and light over darkness.

Diwali is celebrated 20 days after Lord Ram killed Ravana (Dusshera) and rescued Sita from captivity in Lanka. The celebration marks the return of Lord Ram to Ayodha after 14 years of exile. To welcome Lord Rama, Sita and Laxman, the entire city was decked up and the people decorated the city with diyas (earthen lamps) to welcome their king. This five-day festival starts with Dhanteras, which celebrates and welcomes good luck, wealth and prosperity. On Dhanteras people buy jewellery and utensils because any kind of metal is believed to ward off bad luck and usher in wealth and prosperity. Dhanteras is followed by Chhoti Diwali, Diwali, Govardhan Puja and finally, Bhai Dooj marks the end of this festival.Diwali is celebrated 20 days after Lord Ram killed Ravana (Dusshera) and rescued Sita from captivity in Lanka. 6. Diwali_Diya

Diwali is a significant festival in Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, and Jainism which is celebrated as the Festival of Lights. The sanskrit meaning of “Diwali or Deepavali” is “a row of lamps”. In hinduism it is the homecoming of Rama after a 14-year exile in the forest and his victory over Ravana. In the legend, the people of Ayodhya (the capital of his kingdom) welcomed Rama by lighting rows (avali) of lamps (dipa), thus its name: dipawali. There is a relationship between Dasara (Dasha-hara in Sanskrit means the “remover of bad fate”) and Diwali. Dasara marks the victory of Lord Rama over Ravana. After his victory Lord Rama had to cross Lanka and entire South India to reach Ayodhya. So it took some time for him to reach Ayodhya and that’s the reason there’s is time difference between Dasara and Diwali.

    MY MEMORABLE DIWALI

My most memorable Diwali will be this year in 14/11/2020 because first time we are going to celebrate Diwali by maintaining social distancing, there will be mask in every body's face, after every second there will be usage of sanitize in every hands, sanitization on every chair or anything before siting on it or using that item. And it would be very much odd. most of children would bring paper crackers or no crackers. So I think so there will be no Diwali or most memorable Diwali ever for everyone.

  22. Once upon a time there was a great warrior, Prince Rama, who had a beautiful wife named Sita.

There was also a terrible demon king, Ravana. He had twenty arms and ten heads, and was feared throughout the land. He wanted to make Sita his wife, and one day he kidnapped her and took her away in his chariot. Clever Sita left a trail of her jewellery for Rama to follow.

Rama followed the trail of glittering jewellery until he met the monkey king, Hanuman, who became his friend and agreed to help find Sita. Messages were sent to all the monkeys in the world, and through them to all the bears, who set out to find Sita.

After a very long search, Hanuman found Sita imprisoned on an island. Rama's army of monkeys and bears couldn't reach the island, so they began to build a bridge. Soon all the animals of the world, large and small, came to help. When the bridge was built, they rushed across it and fought a mighty battle.

When Rama killed the evil Ravana with a magic arrow, the whole world rejoiced. Rama and Sita began their long journey back to their land, and everybody lit oil lamps to guide them on their way and welcome them back.

Ever since, people light lamps at Diwali to remember that light triumphs over dark and good triumphs over evil.

  32. The festival of Diwali in India is celebrated over a period of five days. The first day of Diwali is called Dhanvantari Triyodashi or Dhanteras. On this day, Lord Dhanwantari, the god of medicine, came out of the ocean with the science of Ayurveda for mankind. The second day of Diwali is called Naraka Chaturdashi. The third day is for Lakshmi Puja. The fourth day is Govardhan Puja, the day when Lord Krishna asked the people of Vrindavan to pray to Giri Govardhan, the hill, instead of Indra. The fifth day is dedicated to brothers and sisters and is celebrated as Bhai Dooj. It is based on the belief that in the Vedic Era, Lord of Death, Yama, once visited his sister Yamuna. He gave her a boon that whoever would visit her sister on this day, would be liberated of all his sins and will achieve moksha.
The most popularly known story of Diwali is that of the return of Lord Ram to Ayodhya with his wife Sita and younger brother Lakshman after killing the Demon King, Ravana in Lanka. The people of Ayodhya lined the streets and their homes with oil wicks in clay lamps to welcomed them. Since that day, Diwali is celebrated with great pomp and show as a remembrance.

But there are many other lesser-known stories associated with Diwali. Read them to your kids and make them aware of these lesser known stories as well.
    1. Lord Krishna killed Narakasur : Narakasur was the son of goddess earth, Bhudevi and Varaha (the third avatar (re-incarnation) of Vishnu). Bhudevi sought a boon from Vishnu that Narakasur must be all powerful and must have a long life. Immersed in power, he conquered both the heaven and the earth. All the gods approached Vishnu and requested him to get rid of Narakasur. Vishnu assured them that he would kill Narakasur in his avatar as Krishna. Later, Krishna killed Narakasur and freed 16,000 women that he had forcefully enslaved. To restore their dignity, Krishna married these women and gained 16,000 wives. (Krishna also killed Narakasur’s general Mura and thus came to be known as Murari, the enemy of Mura). Before his death Narakasur had requested a boon that his death should be celebrated with great pomp and show on Earth. This was thus the day that came to be celebrated as Diwali.
    2. Lord Mahavira attained Nirvana : According to Jain texts, Lord Mahavira, the twenty-fourth and last tirthankara, a teacher who preaches the dharma, is said to have attained nirvana (moksha) on the day of Diwali. Lord Mahavira’s soul is said to have become Siddha, the purest form for a soul.
